I have been thinking this week about what should be popping up in my lifestream. I set up a new twitter account for when I am reading university stuff, so now I have 3. Personal, study & a twitter book club I set up. All 3 currently feature in my lifestream. Should they?

My current feeling is that in studying digital culture it’s necessary to use your own experiences as well as your perspective on the readings. It’s interesting in an ethnographic way; as well as studying digital culture, i am a part of it. I’d be interested to see if that’s still how I feel at the end of the course. Also, i’d be interested to know what everyone else is doing:

Did you create a Twitter account just for this course?

Do you use it personally as well as professionally/ for study?

Should a Lifestream be solely professional?

Its always so nice when someone says what you are thinking…I too have considered the influence and the usefulness of personal aspects within the lifestream. My twitter account (which is largely used for MSc stuff) is now linked to Facebook, so I am inundated with comments of ‘what on earth were you talking about’ comments from friends.

My feeling is that my lifestream would present a more holistic view of my digital life, if there was more about me (not just the professional/study elements).

In answer to your questions then, I already had the twitter account, used mainly for study, and no, at least some personal elements would enrich the lifestream, what do others think?

As an aside I wonder what your feelings are on feeds into your lifestream, can we have news feeds, or should we, as the guide suggests, only have ‘things we have produced?’

Glad it’s not just me!

Regarding news feeds, I think I personally would use something like Delicious or Posterous to stream those that were of specific interest? In recent years, RSS feeds have conspired to give me a particular type of stress headache when I see the increased numbers. I’ve logged out now, never going to log in again!! Pruning the lifestream I have is enough, i think, not sure I could handle external content too! I’m definitely better opting in to something rather than opting out of it…
